  • Monitoring of legislative hearings and public roundtables

Non Profit

The Session Law Firm represents several non-profit organizations. Our non-profit clients foster greater economic and community development in several neighborhoods throughout the District of Columbia, and serve to address the social, economic, and educational needs of its fellow citizens. To that end, the Session Law Firm often provides legal consultation and advice to newly established non-profit organizations in areas such as corporate formation, organizational bylaws, and assistance with obtaining tax exempt status under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Representative community development and social service organizations include:

  • Congress Heights Main Streets, whose goal is to work "in partnership with the business community, property owners and residents to foster economic development and improve the business corridor as well as to attract new business and create a flourishing commercial and retail environment in the Congress Heights district and its neighboring business communities".
  • Deanwood Heights Main Streets, whose goal is to provide citizens with access to an effective economic development partnership based upon a proven national model that gets results through "targeted contact with decision makers and funding sources", and "consultation and support from urban business development experts".
  • Marshall Heights Community Development Organization, an organization established to "help grow Ward 7 into the District of Columbia's most welcoming, prospering, livable community for everyone".
  • Parklands Community Center, an organization established to "improve the quality of life of low-income and disadvantaged families, that will ultimately increase the number of children succeeding in school with hope for the future and reduce child abuse and neglect through year-round transformation/life-skill workshops and individual coaching".
  • 12th Street Community Services, Inc. ("TSCS"), which is affiliated with the 12th Street Christian Church in Washington, DC. TSCS was established to offer "a collection of inter-relational programs intentionally designed to enhance the lives and expand the opportunities of children, youth and families living in Wards 1 and 2 of Washington, D.C. TSCS seeks to increase the desire for personal responsibility and productivity by promoting the healthy and successful development of youth and their families".
Transportation & Aviation

The Session Law Firm's knowledge and experience in both public policy and private enterprise is an essential element in helping clients contribute to the maintenance of our nation's transportation infrastructure. The Session Law Firm's transportation related activities have included the District of Columbia Streetcar Project, whose initiative is to create a streetcar system in the District of Columbia that will:

  • Link neighborhoods with a modern, convenient and attractive transportation alternative.
  • Encourage economic development and affordable housing options along streetcar corridors.

Mr. Session also currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of the Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority ("MWAA"), and formerly served as General Counsel for the Airport Minority Advisory Council. Moreover, having served as Chief Counsel for a Congressional Subcommittee with oversight of the airport/aviation industry for over 5 years, and subsequently as a lawyer in private practice representing airport interests, Mr. Session is highly experienced in airport/aviation policy, regulatory and business matters.

Real Estate & Community Development

The Firm has had extensive experience in conducting complex District of Columbia commercial real property transactions. Some of the services that the Session Law Firm can provide include:

  • Review and edit real estate purchase agreements and contracts.
  • Prepare term sheets, operating agreements, and articles of organization.
  • Serve as your registered agent in DC.
  • Prepare and file condominium documents.
  • Prepare private placement memorandum and financing documents.
  • Represent you before DC Government agencies, such as the Office of Tax and Revenue and Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs.

Representative samples of the Firm's District of Columbia real estate experience include the following:

  • Northwest One - New Communities - $86 Million District of Columbia economic development project to transform public housing into mixed-used community. The Firm provided legal representation and advice to development team including tasks related to operating agreement, exclusive rights agreement, and Certified Business Enterprise Agreement.
  • Sherman Avenue (Lot 1120, Square 2873) - District of Columbia's exchange of real properties with Howard University. The Firm provided (a) Report of Title comprising the last sixty (60) years; (b) legal description of the site; and (c) title and settlement services, including issuing title insurance.
  • 3418 and 3420 Warder Street, NW - District Government's purchase of two homes to raze for economic development purposes. The Firm reviewed Purchase and Sale Agreement, represented homeowners in transaction; conducted title examination and settlement; and issued title insurance.
  • Oxon Cove (Reservation 421) - On behalf of the District of Columbia Government, the Firm provided a title examination report for a 51 acre site owned by the United States Government. The Firm provided a title examination and report on behalf of the District of Columbia Government.
  • Oxon Run (Reservation 501) - The Firm provided a title examination and report on behalf of the District of Columbia Government.
